Dive Insight:
Connected homes are quickly becoming more common. Gartner recently projected that 8.4 billion connected products will be in use worldwide in 2017, up 31% year over year.
But while consumers will purchase more devices this year, businesses will spend more. Businesses alone will drive $964 billion in IoT hardware sales in 2017, according to Gartner.
As use of IoT devices in homes and businesses grows, security remains a concern. Until IoT device makers are held to higher security standards, devices with poor security can creep into homes and businesses and make them vulnerable to data breaches or harness them to launch DDoS attacks.
