West Boylston Native Launches Kickstarter Campaign
PALO ALTO, CA., APRIL 24, 2018—West Boylston resident, Bryan Perla, a student at Stanford University and the founder of Little ELF, just launched a 30 day Kickstarter campaign to fund his revolutionary new product. Little ELF is a patent pending device which is the most efficient, safe, and easy device for cutting wrapping paper.
What is Little ELF?
When interviewed, Perla, a graduate of The Winchendon School, explained what led him to this invention. “Holidays and other gift-giving occasions are stressful enough, but with Little ELF wrapping presents can now be headache free.” Bryan elaborated, “ The outdated way of cutting wrapping paper has never worked, because the slice is either jagged, ripped, or crooked. This is frustrating! It wastes paper and your time. During the holidays, the thing people have least of is time, so why continue to spend hours upon hours fussing with dull scissors or unsafe blades, trying to convince ourselves that these are effective tools for cutting wrapping paper. Little ELF is the answer!”
Stanford Student began his ‘young innovator’ career in high school.
Bryan Perla became interested in inventions at a young age. His time at The Carroll School sparked his interest and by high school the flame was burning. He explained, “The Winchendon School helped me pursue my passion. During my senior year, I designed, prototyped, and worked on a patent for a project — a device that helps people cut wrapping paper. I went through many different models, but ended with one that was the most Easy, Lightweight, and Fast. I called my new product Little ELF.
Next Steps for Little ELF
Little ELF has launched a 30 day Kickstarter campaign in order to fund its production costs. Getting fully funded through pre-sales on Kickstarter will determine if this product can be produced and sold to customers around the world. If Little ELF can reach its goal it could be in stores by the next Christmas.“I am optimistic, however, that Little ELF can and will be successful with the help of others. You can help fund this campaign on Kickstarter using the link provided or by searching on Kickstarter ‘Little ELF- Cutting Wrapping Paper Made Easy’”, Perla said in closing.
Thank you DYSLEXIA!
Perla has a moto, and is quick to attribute his thinking to Albert Einstein, a fellow dyslexic. “Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.” Bryan Perla was diagnosed with dyslexia in second grade when his team recognized that reading, spelling, and fluency were a challenge for him. In fact, in fourth grade he was reading at at first grade level far behind his friends. Enter the intervention of The Carroll School, Lincoln, MA. Here Bryan learned, when embraced, dyslexic thinkers have brilliance to share. He was taught about his big-picture thinking, ability to visualize solutions, and capability to make connections in complex problems can help others understand solutions more clearly. Those personal lessons were instrumental in launching Bryan’s inventions—and for his admission to Stanford University, one of the most selective Universities in the country. Although, he will always struggle with reading--he is experiencing the fruits of dyslexia.
Goal for Little ELF
“A goal of mine is to be able to walk into a store and see this product on the shelf where it can be bought to make people's lives easier. For me, that would be incredible and I know that it can happen”, Bryan explained. He continued, “To go from imagining how this product would work, to bringing it into the hands of other people is inspiring to me to say the least. I want this to be a success, not for the money, but because my intuition continues to tell me that people will fall in love with the simplicity and efficiency of the product. Generous donations and pledges through our just live Kickstarter will help me produce a product that will make holidays less stressful, so we all can focus more time on family and what matters most.”
