- Saying that it needs broader aspirations in global technology, Starbucks announced that it has hired Gerri Martin-Flickinger as its first CTO. Previously Martin-Flickinger was the CIO for Adobe Systems.
- The company said it hired a "technologist at heart" who has proven abilities with leveraging technology-based solutions to drive business value and cited her strengths in security, cloud computing, and big data.
- In June the COO announced the departure of CIO Curt Garner who worked 18 years with Starbucks. His last day with the company is planned for November.

The move is in line with other changes Starbucks has made to improve its technological reach and grow the company.
Earlier this year Kevin Johnson, previously with Juniper Networks and Microsoft, was announced as the COO. Starbucks introduced Mobile Order and Pay this year and is planning for coffee and food delivery before the end of the year.
