- "The Administration believes that it is critical that industry, civil society and government work together to develop the positive aspects of the technology, manage its risks and challenges, and ensure that everyone has the opportunity to help in building an AI-enhanced society and to participate in its benefits," according to a White House announcement.
- The White House also plans to release a companion strategic plan for federally-funded research and development in AI.
Dive Insight:
The White House wants to showcase opportunities in AI, looking at how to develop an AI workforce and the overall potential the technology has to offer. A larger part of that is involves encouraging business and government to work together in developing the technology.
Though many like to uphold the promise of AI, across sectors there is concern about the technology's potential impact on jobs. A recent Forrester report predicted automation supported by intelligent software agents will be on the rise in the next five years, accounting for the elimination of a net 6% of U.S. jobs.
To help curb negative associations or connotations of AI and its impact on jobs, the report recommends the White House conduct a follow up study to assess the impact of automation on the economy.
