Dive Brief:
- Box is working with Google on its Google Docs and Google Spingboard in an effort to facilitate easier content collaboration in enterprises, the companies announced at BoxWorks 2016, Box's annual conference in San Francisco.
- The move will allow Box to serve as a third-party host for Docs, Sheets and Slide, which allows users to collaborate and edit content while using Box, much like they would in Google Drive.
- The companies are also working to extend Google's enterprise search capability, Springboard, to content that is stored in Box, a move that takes Google's renowned search beyond the bounds of the Google Apps suite.
Dive Insight:
The workforce productivity space is getting more and more competitive. On Tuesday, Box announced a new workflow solution called Box Relay. Box Relay combines IBM Cloud with Box’s content management platform to enable employees to create, track and manage routine processes.
The new partnership gives customers more flexibility with storage tools than what Google has to offer right now. The move could make it more appealing to enterprise customers who choose other tools and product suites for their collaboration needs. In many cases, the tool of choice is Microsoft and its Office 365.
