Dive Brief:
-
The majority of the best jobs of 2017 are tech-based, according a list released by job site Indeed.com Thursday. Seven of the top 10 jobs are related to software engineering and development.
-
Not only are tech roles in demand, they also pay well. Full stack developers, data scientists and development operations engineers garner some of the biggest salaries among the 25 jobs on the list, ranging from $110,000 to $129,000.
-
"As every business morphs into the digital version of itself, the demand for workers with highly technical abilities is increasing far faster than supply," said Indeed Senior Vice President Paul D’Arcy. "The result is a rapid growth in open, unfilled jobs and increases in salaries for the talent that can fill these roles."
Dive Insight:
Indeed generated the list based on number of job postings, salary and growth opportunity.
The average year-over-year percentage increase in job postings between 2013 and 2016 was particularly of note. Full stack developers were not only the number one position on the list overall, but demand for them also increased 122% over the last three years.
In fact, developer roles of all varieties increased considerably, demonstrating the appetite businesses have for new technologies that can help improve competitiveness.
At the same time, it’s becoming more difficult to fill those jobs. According to a recent analysis of the software jobs market from Trilogy Education and based on data from job site Burning Glass, the number of companies reporting difficulty filling software development roles has increased each year since 2009.
