Dive Insight:
A new report from Payscale found the typical CIO averages an annual salary of $156,266, though location and level of experience means some are making a lot more than the average. Overall, Payscale found CIO salaries ranging anywhere from $86,000 near the bottom to $273,000 at the top.
The top CIO salaries were found in Los Angeles, where the typical IT leader averages 45% more than the national average. LA was followed by Miami, at 33% higher, and San Francisco, at 32% higher than the national average, respectively.
The Payscale study also found job satisfaction was reported as “high” by the vast majority of CIOs.
