Dive Brief:
-
A Colorado-based startup plans to build the commercial version of the SlamData open-source project.
-
SlamData is designed to help businesses visualize semi-structured NoSQL data.
- Because SlamData works natively with data from NoSQL databases, it doesn’t need to translate unstructured data into relational format, an improvement over common analysis platforms, according to company representatives.
Dive Insight:
Translating unstructured data into relational format can be a time-consuming process. SlamData claims it can help businesses improve efficiencies when it comes to analytics — as its open-source platform doesn’t need to translate unstructured data into a relational format. The company is now using the SlamData project’s framework to create a native analytics platform for NoSQL information. It’s expected to be commercially available by the end of 2015.
“The open source version is fully functional from an analytics perspective, but larger enterprises can't really implement it at scale without the features mentioned,” said SlamData CEO and co-founder Jeff Carr. “A user could arbitrarily delete data, or even full databases, and they have no way to manage or track users.”
