Dive Insight:
Though CIOs generally stay in their positions for relatively short tenures, usually less than five years, Giambruno's time at Shutterstock is particularly short.
Shutterstock has been working to transition to more modern backend technologies. But the company has unique challenges, with roughly 1.7 million customers using its global platforms with audio, video or photos. Shutterstock also moves petabytes of data a month, taxing underlying infrastructure. The next CIO to step in will have to continue work in modernizing infrastructure.
Giambruno specializes in acting as a "transformational CIO," so his next gig would likely be in an organization that requires a major IT overhaul. He previously helped both Revlon and Tribune migrate to the cloud.
