Dive Brief:
- SAP's CIO wants to create 'holodeck' meetings with augmented reality (AR) participants.
- With hologram technology, "entire virtual meeting discussion will change," he predicted.
- The tech also might help attract highly qualified new employees, he said.
Dive Insight:
The CIO, Thomas Saueressig, is only 31 himself and thus a millennial -- which is exactly who he hopes the meetings and other "cool technology" will attract to his company, CNBC reports. But the technology also could help in other ways.
"If we do it right, the entire virtual meeting discussion will change and you get a different kind of trust level if you see people in a different way," he told the network.
That's perhaps true, but anyone who has sat uncomfortably as tech support fiddles with a much simpler video conferencing technology knows a simple truth: If it doesn't work, the meeting is dead in the water and people are likely to walk away angry. And that's not exactly a blow for productivity.
