Dive Insight:
Samsung said it will target the server market first, but after that, it’s possible the drives could be available for standard laptops and PCs, potentially providing businesses new ways to handle big data. The drives are also fast, rated at 2 million input/output operations per second (conventional PC drives average 10,000 to 90,000 operations per second).
But Samsung may not be the leader in big storage for long. Last year, SanDisk said it was hoping to launch its own 16TB SSD in 2016.
