A new report from Adobe Systems found that despite the popularity of instant messaging, texting and social media, email will remain a critical tool in the workplace far into the future.

The poll showed that email is the top communications tool at work and predicts it will grow in importance over the next several years.

Workers estimated they spend 6.3 hours a day checking emails.

Nearly half of the respondents said they think their use of emails for work will increase in the coming years. 19% predicted it will go up significantly.
"Email is and will remain a cornerstone of the workplace culture," said Kristin Naragon of Adobe Systems Inc. "Certainly, lots of companies are trying to break into that space with productivity tools, but email is not going anywhere.”
Naragon said Americans are so concerned about keeping in touch that they monitor emails constantly, even in socially unacceptable settings and during potentially dangerous times, such as while driving.
