Dive Insight:
The Office of Personnel Management said those affected by their recent security breach included 19.7 million people who applied for security clearances, plus 1.8 million non-applicants. The stolen data included Social Security numbers and other sensitive information, including a complete rundown of the personal lives of some 90 percent of applicants for security clearances.
OPM said in a statement that its investigation had found no information to suggest any misuse or further dissemination of the information stolen from its systems. Some lawmakers have called for the resignation of OPM director Katherine Archuleta in the wake of the most recent disclosures.
