Dive Brief:
-
Microsoft said its Windows Update for Business (WUB) won’t be ready until sometime in 2016.
-
WUB has been pitched as a way for companies to manage the perpetual refreshes of Windows 10.
-
Microsoft announced WUB nearly four months ago, but has made little mention of it since. Michael Niehaus, a senior product marketing manager, said WUB will be delivered in stages, with the final solution completed next year.
Dive Insight:
"Some of it will be available now, some of it will be delivered in subsequent releases,” Niehaus said. “So it's definitely a work in progress.”
Microsoft's slow approach toward WUB reflects the reality of Windows 10 adoption, experts have said. Although millions of consumers have upgraded, Windows 7 will remain the dominant enterprise OS for at least the next three years. Analysts anticipate that overall, businesses will be slow to move to Windows 10.
