Dive Brief:
- Zerodium says a team of security researchers may have found a way to remotely penetrate Apple's latest mobile OS.
- The company has been running a contest offering $1 million to anyone that could hack iOS 9.
- Zerodium congratulated the winning team on Twitter Monday but did not identify the researchers.
Dive Insight:
Zerodium launched the contest in September, promising to reward the first group to come up with a remote, browser-based iOS 9 exploit.
"It's definitely very technically challenging," said Patrick Wardle, director of research with Synack.
Zerodium did not provide any details of the hack, but the reward the company is offering demonstrates the potential value of he information to other organizations.
"If they’re paying a million dollars, I'm sure that means someone is willing to buy it for that or more," Wardle said.
