Dive Brief:
-
Google has hired Sam Schillace of Box Inc. to work in its cloud computing division, according to a Bloomberg report.
-
Schillace was a senior vice president of engineering at Box, where he was responsible for the engineering and QA teams.
-
Google has been on a mission to shore up its cloud division with enterprise experience as it moves to try and take a larger share of the cloud market.
Dive Insight:
This is not the first time Schillace has worked for Google. Prior to joining Box, he was a senior engineering director at Google for more than four years, where he oversaw docs, Gmail, calendar, reader and other products.
He originally joined Google when it purchased his startup, Upstartle, in 2006. Schillace and his team at Upstartle developed software that eventually morphed into Google Docs.
Google has recently poured more resources into its enterprise business as part of a long-term commitment to expanding its market share. Last week, Google announced it hired casino executive Tariq Shaukat to serve as its new president of enterprise sales.
