Dive Brief:
- A Gartner survey of almost 3,000 CIOs globally found IT budgets are due to grow just 2.2% in 2016.
- Despite the small number, it’s the largest jump in the last five years.
- Analysts say the growth is still not enough, however.
Dive Insight:
Despite technology’s growing importance in all aspects of business, Gartner says IT department growth has been flat or negative for the last five years. In the North America alone, the jump is estimated at just 2.3%.
Gartner said its survey also found that 65% of CIOs said they are grappling with a “talent crisis.”
"The majority really don't have a good idea about what to do to address this talent issue," said Dave Aron, an analyst at Gartner.
Gartner recommends businesses develop relationships with universities, do more mentoring and provide job rotations.
