Dive Brief:
- Dell may be working on a tablet with a detachable keyboard similar to the Microsoft Surface Pro 3.
- German site Giga.de said it discovered marketing materials outlining the new tablet, called the Dell XPS 12.
- Dell isn’t the only company imitating the 2-in-1 form factor of the Surface Pro 3. Lenovo unveiled their "Ideapad Mixx 700" which looks very similar to the Surface Pro 3, earlier this month.
Dive Insight:
The Dell XPS 12 would reportedly have a 4K display, integrated kickstand and a detachable keyboard, up to 10 hours of battery life, a stylus, and a Thunderbolt 3 interface rather than a USB, which could position it well for desktop use.
The reportedly leaked documents indicate the Dell XPS 12 could be released in October.
The close copies of the Surface Pro seems to demonstrate that the 2-in-1 model is finally catching on. Sales of the Surface Pro have been climbing steadily. In Microsoft reported 117 percent growth in Surface revenue, up to $888 million for the quarter.
