Using the new service, companies could connect Microsoft Azure and AWS, for example, allowing them to easily move data from one cloud vendor to another. Companies can avoid having to move workloads to their data centers first. The service also bypasses the public internet which adds a level of safety.
 

According to the 2017 State of the Cloud survey released by RightScale in February, companies are increasingly using multiple cloud providers, with some reporting using an average of eight clouds. Using multiple cloud providers can also help ensure redundant services in case of outages or unexpected downtime. Microsoft and AWS have recently experienced unexpected downtime with their respective cloud services.
