Dive Brief:
- Comcast is introducing a new Wi-Fi package for businesses called WiFi Pro.
- WiFi Pro will give faster Wi-Fi and cloud controls to small to midsize businesses, or branches of large businesses.
- Comcast is hoping the new service will help it retain and attract more business users as demand for Wi-Fi grows.
Dive Insight:
Comcast said the service will be especially helpful for businesses that want flexibility in their own office space but don’t have the IT resources required to offer such services themselves.
John Guillaume, vice president of product management at Comcast Business, said WiFi Pro will offer SMBs and distributed enterprises features previously only available to large office locations. Included marketing features will also enable better customer engagement, he said.
“The additional marketing features allow SMBs and enterprise branches to create a more personalized experience through Wi-Fi to help drive customer retention and revenue growth,” said Guillaume.
Comcast has worked to expand its business cliental as the company's cable TV side faces strong competition from streaming services like Netflix. Wi-Fi may be a safe business bet for Comcast, as a recent study by Cisco found that Wi-Fi devices will power a majority of all Internet traffic by 2017.
