Dive Insight:
As the company's first CIO, Carl will lead and direct the global IT organization and "work to identify technology enabled solutions needed to grow our business and gain competitive advantage," David P. Berg, CEO, Carlson Hospitality Group said in a statement.
Berg did not mention cybersecurity, but presumably that will also fall into Carl's areas of responsibility. The hospitality industry has been hit hard by credit card breaches over the past two years. In November, Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide reported that payment systems at 54 of its hotels in North America had been infected with malware. Around the same time, Hilton Worldwide Holdings also revealed that it was investigating possible cyberattacks.
