Dive Brief:
- Anthropic launched Claude Enterprise Wednesday following a limited pilot of the business-focused tool, the company said in a blog post.
- Claude Enterprise comes with more security and administrative controls and features than the consumer-grade version of the tool, like a native GitHub integration to help with programming tasks. Audit logs and role-based access with fine-grained permissions are designed to ensure security and compliance monitoring within organizations.
- Pricing for the tool is customized to each organization’s scale of use and depth of integration with company systems, Scott White, product manager at Anthropic, said in an email to CIO Dive. “Organizations will work with our sales team to understand their unique use case and tailor a plan that offers the best value for their specific AI implementation goals.”
Dive Insight:
Anthropic's Claude 3 and 3.5 set of models are well-received in different model studies and head-to-head battles, but enterprises are looking for more than shiny capabilities or better performance. The startup has worked to create a robust security strategy that can win over cautious enterprise clientele.
Early users of Claude Enterprise, which include management consulting company North Highland and AI research lab Midjourney, have leveraged the tool to brainstorm, streamline internal processes, translate content and write code, according to Anthropic.
Enterprise-grade versions of tools are critical to luring bigger customers, a key goal for Anthropic and other AI companies looking to tap into enterprise-sized budgets in a competitive market.
Anthropic’s launch comes just after the one-year anniversary of OpenAI’s ChatGPT Enterprise release, which rolled out amid a frenzy of generative AI enthusiasm. But sentiments have started to shift from curiosity and interest to ROI frustrations and a focus on risk mitigation.
“We have this belief that we can do this responsibly and we can make our models safe, secure, reliable, lower hallucinations,” CEO Dario Amodei said in June during an AWS conference. “We focus very heavily on that, and we don’t see that as being in conflict with having the best model.”
Amazon is a part of Anthropic's strategy, giving users a broader safety net when leveraging Claude via Amazon's AI marketplace, Bedrock. Amazon cemented a minority ownership position in Anthropic with the completion of its $4 billion investment in March.
The partnership has given U.K. regulators cause for pause, however, as questions around the deal's impact on market competition linger. The Competition and Markets Authority launched a formal investigation and is approaching an October deadline for a phase one decision.
